This is a remarkable example of an Early 19th-Century Wedgwood Caneware Teapot (circa 1810-1830) featuring a classic "lotus pod" or fluted bachelor form. This piece is a dream for collectors of "Past Imperfect" or "Make-Do" antiques, as it showcases a high-quality, 19th-century inventive repair.
During the 1800s, fine Wedgwood stoneware was a prized possession. This teapot has been fitted with a custom, hand-rolled metal spout and a matching metal lid by a 'china mender'. The additions are beautifully seamed and soldered by hand, transforming a broken vessel into a unique piece of folk art history.
