Rare Antique Rosenthal Elfenbein Kronach Miniature Demitasse Cup & Saucer, c.1891
A rare and exquisite miniature antique demitasse cup and saucer by Rosenthal & Co., produced at their Kronach factory in Germany circa 1891 — one of the earliest pieces from a manufacturer that would go on to become one of Europe's most celebrated porcelain houses.
The cup and saucer are decorated in a striking lavender and milk-purple palette with intricate gold filigree overlay and delicately hand-painted pink cabbage roses. What makes this piece truly exceptional is the hand-painted reverse of the saucer — a dark green centre surrounded by a wreath of pink roses, a feature rarely seen and indicative of the highest quality production of the period.
A testament to the extraordinary craftsmanship of late 19th century German porcelain, this piece would make a stunning addition to any collection of antique ceramics, Rosenthal porcelain, or Victorian decorative arts.
