Antique Windmill Plate - Victorian English Transferware Dish - Flow Blue design
A beautiful antique English flow blue transferware plate dating to circa 1880s, believed to be from the 'Windmill' pattern (1907) by A. J. Wilkinson — Royal Staffordshire Pottery, Burslem, England. Unbranded, as was common with many pieces from this era, but consistent in style and quality with Wilkinson's celebrated transferware output.
The plate features the iconic blurred cobalt blue glaze over a crisp white earthenware base, created during the high-temperature firing process that gives flow blue its distinctive, romantic softness. The central motif depicts a picturesque Dutch windmill and landscape, framed by a decorative fluted rim with remnants of gold gilding — a classic combination of Victorian design at its most evocative.
In good antique condition with minor crazing consistent with age and one very fine crack on the rim, barely visible under magnification (see photo 4). A highly collectible piece of Victorian Staffordshire transferware.
