Antique relief-moulded ceramic jug by the renowned William Brownfield of Cobridge, Staffordshire. Known historically as the "Alloa" shape, this distinctive 1860s design beautifully mimics a classic wooden harvest barrel with highly detailed staves and textured grain bands.
Design & Craftsmanship: The body features rich, multi-tonal tan and brown staves contrasted by crisp ivory-white hoops adorned with miniature faux nail heads. The collar and spout are elegantly draped in a heavy, high-relief pattern of fruiting grapevines, broad leaves, and ears of barley, which seamlessly flow into a stylized naturalistic handle.
Historical Authenticity & Marks: The base features an incredibly crisp, clear impressed circular mark containing the manufacturer's initials 'W.B.', the pottery location 'Cobridge', and the pattern name 'ALLOA'. At the center is a pristine Victorian Registry Diamond (Kite Mark). The code sequence (H at the top, R on the right, and 20 at the bottom) officially dates the registration of this exact design to April 20, 1866. A small size stamp '36' is also impressed near the outer foot rim.
