A rare and complete mid-19th-century Staffordshire Pratt ware ceramic pot and matching lid. This exceptional piece features the iconic multi-color transfer-printed scene of the celebrated Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi.
Produced by the renowned F. & R. Pratt & Co. of Fenton, this design (No. 169) was most likely created to commemorate Garibaldi’s wildly popular visit to England in 1864. The illustration depicts Garibaldi standing beside the Italian flag, pointing toward the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
