Royal Doulton for Whyte & Mackay Snowy Owl Vintage Porcelain Decanter 1984
A magnificent porcelain decanter produced by Royal Doulton for Whyte & Mackay in 1984, modelled as a beautifully detailed Snowy Owl. A superb collector's piece that combines Royal Doulton's celebrated ceramic artistry with the heritage of one of Scotland's most storied whisky blenders.
Whyte & Mackay was founded in 1882 by James Whyte and Charles Mackay, who quickly launched their celebrated Special Blend. After focusing on export markets for decades, the firm renewed its domestic focus after the Second World War, merging with the Mackenzie Brothers in 1960 to acquire their first distillery, Dalmore. They subsequently added Tamnavulin, Fettercairn, and the Invergordon grain distillery to their portfolio. Forward-thinking throughout their history — pioneering sherry finishing for their proprietary blend and introducing the first 40 fl oz bottle for the on-trade in 1963 — Whyte & Mackay remains one of the most popular Scotch brands in the world, today synonymous with master blender Richard Paterson.
The decanter is modelled as a Snowy Owl in fine hand-painted porcelain, with crisp white plumage and detailed feather painting. Please note: the stopper is missing, which is reflected in the price. Otherwise in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.
