The combination of the relief moulding and the warm two-tone palette gives the piece a wonderful rustic authenticity.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSalt glazing — achieved by throwing common salt into the kiln at high temperatures — produces the distinctive slightly textured, orange-peel surface that is the hallmark of this type of early English stoneware.
